The Beers of Summer

BC Lagers for the Hot Days Ahead

03/07/2011

In most parts of BC, it has not been a stellar year in terms of hot, sunny weather. But things are looking up and no doubt, there's plenty of sun coming our way in the days ahead.

And that, of course, means we'll need lots of cold beer to quench the summer thirst - and BC craft brewers are ready with a wide assortment of sun-friendly beverages, that go down nicely at the beach, the ball park, the patio or wherever you may be enjoying the good times.

Most folks prefer something a bit lighter - and colder - than usual this time of year, so lagers naturally come to mind. But that doesn’t mean you have to settle for a standard, boring, mainstream lager. Even within the category of a ‘summer’ lager, there is lots of room for brewing creativity, and BC brewers are happy to oblige. So there’s lots of good choices out there – here are a few options you may want to look out for:

  • Red Racer Lager - Central City Brewing (cans)
  • Phoenix Gold Lager - Phillips Brewing
  • Beach Blonde Lager - Tree Brewing (cans)
  • High Country Kolsch - Mt. Begbie (cans)

Of course, this is not to say that a good BC wheat beer or hoppy IPA won't go down nicely in the summer, as well. So whatever your beverage of choice, enjoy the summer...and enjoy the products of your local brewery!
