The Art of Beer Marketing
Label of the Year: Bombshell Blonde Ale
30/08/2009
The label on the bottle - like insignia on a beer tap or even the sign hanging from the medieval pub - has always been an unlisted 'ingredient' in beer, helping to create a connection between the brewer and beer drinker. Some breweries go to extremes of creativity and artistry to enhance the appeal of their products and in recognition of this effort, the Collectors of Canadian Brewery Advertising Association presents a "Label of the Year" award. Recently, the Association announced that the 2008 winner is Mission Springs Brewing Company of Mission, BC for its outstanding "Bombshell Blonde Ale" label.
Congratulations to Mission Springs on the award! A nice bit of recognition for the extra attention that the brewery puts into its labels, used on the 650ml bottles that the brewpub sells from its onsite liquor store.
The 'Bombshell Blonde' label pays homage to the Nose Art that graced combat aircraft during the WWII era and was designed by Ron Fiedler of Barnstorm Creative Group in Vancouver.
I'm not too familiar with the Canadian Brewery Advertising Association, but it sounds like an interesting group, apparently comprised of about 200 members who vote on 'Label of the Year' and associated annual brewery awards.
