Beer Season Kick-off!
12th Annual Okanagan Fest-of-Ale in Penticton (April 13-14, 2007)
28/03/2007
Although there have been some beer events already this year, such as the Wine & Beer Festival at UBC, many beer fans look to the Okanagan Fest-of-Ale held in Penticton since 1995 as the traditional kick-off to the beer drinking season. Of course beer can - and should - be enjoyed all year long, but the warmer weather just seems to make it that much more of a natural beverage of choice. And the Okanagan Fest-of-Ale is a great showcase for many of the finer products available in and around BC. This year's event will feature about 30 breweries serving up 75 different brews, with some ciders and what not thrown in as well. The exhibitors include not only breweries of all shapes and sizes from throughout BC, but also breweries from Alberta and Washington, including several noteworthy examples, such as Wildrose Brewery from Calgary, that we rarely get a taste of in these parts. It's a great opportunity to see what the various brewers are up to and sample their latest flavours. And of course there's always lots of great food vendors and entertainments on hand as well.
In addition to the usual Saturday hours of noon-7pm, the festival will also be open this year to the public on Friday night from 4pm-9pm. It's always been a great festival and it just keeps getting better, so if you can get yourself down to the Penticton Trade & Convention Center for either April 13 or 14, you will be well rewarded.
